Field Visit #6

Image
Time: November 27 at 12:15 pm Temperature: 42° F Weather: Cloudy and rainy  Day length: 9 hours and 22 minutes (7:50am-5:12pm) Observations:  I noticed that there were lots of different bird call during my visit, I for sure heard three different ones and there were probably more. Other than that everything looked very similar to my last visit, it looked like almost all the plants were dead, accept for the grass and small plants on the ground. Changes: This visit was very similar to my last, almost nothing changed between these two visits. But from the beginning of my visits a lot has changed. One specific thing is these weeds/flowers(see picture below), in the beginning they were yellow, as time went on it seemed like they had died and turned fluffy, almost like a dandelion. After that I though they really died but this visit it almost seemed like there was something new on them, but I cant tell it its new growth or remnants of the previous "fluff" Pictures Panorama of my are...

Time: November 13 at 2:10 pm Temperature: 35° F Weather: Snowing Day Length: 9 hours, 49 minutes (7:33am-5:22 pm) Observations:  The most obvious observation was that there was snow on the ground but I also noticed that well I was wandering around I heard no animals, birds or insects. I noticed that the snow was very wet and starting to melt and I think that had to do with the temperature only being a little below freezing. Changes: It looked like just about everything had died at this point, accept there was one little area of green where things seemed to be unaffected by the weather.  Time: October 20 at 2:45 pm Temperature: 61° F Weather: Cloudy Day length: 10 hours, 24 minutes (8:15am-6:39pm) Observations: Most of the trees had lost their leaves and I think this happened fairly recently as the leaves on the ground hadn't started to decompose yet, they were still very bright and crunchy. I also noticed a few cricket sounds. In general everything in my area has become pretty dead. I also noticed that a lot of the leaves on the ground were bright red. Changes: At my last visit there were still a lot of leaves on the trees but at this one they all seemed to have fallen. I wonder if this was caused by the cold and rainy weather we had this past week. I also noticed very few bird sounds, i only heard around two the entire trip. Pictures panorama of my area  Lots of leaves that look like they just fell one of the leaves (I think its a red maple, witch would explain the color, but I'm not positive) Leaf color and fall research North South East  West.   Time: October 9, 2:40pm Temperature: 61° F Weather: Mostly cloudy  Day Length: 11 hrs 40 minutes (7:51 am - 7:11 pm) Observations:  There was lots of bird activity during this visit. I heard lots of birds in all parts of my area but especially in one area where there are some trees but not a lot. I noticed that more trees had yellow or red leaves instead of green leaves. I also noticed that a lot of small insects around. One interesting thing I found as that all they yellow weeds or flowers I saw in my first visit had changed and were fuzzy(see picture below). I also noticed that one tree was bright red(see picture below) and I wonder what that one is so much different than all the other trees.  Changes: This time there was a lot more bird sounds and I think that is because it was very nice outside. I'm also starting to notice that things are starting to die as it gets colder. Things like small trees or bushes. I also saw a lot more of the New England Aster this vi...

Time: September 26, 6:40 pm Temperature: 56° F Weather: Rain Day Length: 11 hrs 58 minutes (7:36 am - 7:34 pm) Observations:  Very few bird sounds, I heard about 3 bird calls in the densest part of the woods. Also I hard no insects accept for I heard a cricket in a dense bush. I was out in the rain so most of what I heard was the rain on leaves. I noticed that the leaves had more color in them. I also noticed that the colors seemed brighter, I think the rain and the grey clouds made the colors seem more vibrant. I noticed that the yellow flowers or weeds had mostly died and were replaced by lots of purple flowers that I believe are New England Aster. Changes: This time I noticed more leaves on the ground and less green leaves, but there were still quite a few. I also noticed that the small plants, flowers, weeds, etc. were different from last time. Last time I saw more weeds with yellow flowers but this time most of them looked like they had died.
